Congratulations on forming a team together and joining the F4 SERIES.  Over the following few pagesyou will find all the information you will need to know to prepare your team for the series.

CONCEPT

The concept is to introduce affordable, competitive racing in a relaxed environment.  Races will be held generally over a 4 or 6 hour period once a month, and teams working as one to achieve the common goal. “TO HAVE FUN”.

F4 endurance racing is about the drivers and the team’s performance, there is no intention to have a competition hindered by rules and interpretation of the rules, the rules and decisions made of the rules are to be accepted in a sportsman like manner and with out recourse. 

1: RACING

Over the race period there will be a minimum number of compulsory pit stops which will involve driver changes and fuel stops all of which will be regulated by the promoter in a designated area. At the end of the race the team that has completed all of their pit stops and the most number of laps will be declared the winners, all other positions will be awarded in descending order of laps completed, once the promoter is satisfied with the final result.

2: INSURANCE

Insurance cover is for Public Liability as required by the NSW Sports & Recreation Department, which does not cover bodily injury and associated costs to persons participating in motor sport.

Personal Accident and Ambulance Insurance is the responsibility of the individual.

3: DRIVERS

1/            All drivers must be 16 years of age or older and are to complete an Observed Licence Test (OLT), which will be run by the promoters, or have been conducted                by a known motor-sport governing authority and documentary evidence produced. However it will be at the discretion of the promoter as to the eligibility of any       driver to race. This is to ensure that all new drivers are at an acceptable and capable level to compete, and know what is expected of them.

2/            There is to be a minimum of 2 drivers per team and a maximum of 4 drivers.

3/            There is to be no smoking in the pits or out grid areas

4/            A driver considered to be affected by alcohol, drugs, medication or for any other reason which affects their driving ability will not be permitted to participate.

5/            A driver using drugs or medication, or has a medical condition that may affect   their ability to compete with safety,  must make it known to the promoter, and must obtain a medical certificate from a doctor stating that it is safe for them to race.

7/            All drivers will be issued with a colored fabric identification patch to be attached onto the right back shoulder of their race suit. Team managers must ensure            colored patches do not correspond with another driver in the same team.  When completing your entry form and pit stop form your driver identification must be noted.

                In the event of wet weather, patches are to be displayed / pined to a T-shirt/singlet over the top of wet weather gear.

4: PIT CREW

It is the responsibility of team managers and individuals that before entering non-spectator areas, ie in/out-grid, mechanical breakdown and fuel stop bay and all pit areas, a Picton Karting Track indemnity form be completed and that each person is aware of the rules, regulations and conditions whilst in these areas.  As per NSW Department of Sports and Recreations Regulations, all pit crew members must be over the age of 16 years.

5: PROTECTIVE CLOTHING

All clothing and safety apparel must conform to Australian Standards. 

                1/            You must have a full-faced helmet that is in good condition. 

                2/            Your race suit must be an approved race suit, work overalls are not acceptable. 

                3/            Appropriate footwear must be worn.

                4/            Gloves must have full fingers.

5/            Sunshade visors will only be permitted until the track lights are switched  on, or when the clerk of course deems them a danger to race with, then a clear or an approved night driving visor must be used.

6: RACE ENTRIES

Entries will be taken up to the maximum number of karts allowed to race on each individual track as set by the Licensing Authority.  The balance of kart entries in excess of these limits will be guaranteed a start in the next race event.

Race entries open at 10am on the Monday following each race.

Race entries must be fully completed by teams and paid in full in one transaction. Part payments and incomplete entries will not be accepted unless prior satisfactory arrangements are made with race organisers.

7: CHASSIS/ MECHANICALS 

All kart chassis’ that have been produced by a designated karting manufacturer are permissible.  The chassis must have a full set of plastics including side pods, nose cone and Nassau panel. Numbers need to be displayed on the front Nassau panel, rear number plate and left and right hand side pods.

A rear nudge bar as supplied or approved by the promoter must be fitted.  A red light is to be mounted on the rear of the seat at the top. A clear Nassau panel light is acceptable and recommended but not compulsory.(orange or red is not acceptable) Modifications and damage repairs to a kart in any manner must be brought to the attention of the promoter prior to the commencement of the work, or upon completion the kart must be inspected by the series scrutineer, to ensure it remains eligible to compete.

8: ENGINE

1/            The engine to be used is a Subaru KX21 9.2 H.P 4 stroke with an overhead cam shaft.

2/            On receipt of the engine from the promoter the engine will have been tagged and sealed

3/            Tags and seals will be checked by the promoter to ensure no modifications are made to the engine.

4/            You will be supplied with a modified exhaust which will also be standardised.

5/            Unless mentioned elsewhere within the rules, engine and exhaust must not be modified.

6/            The fixed main jet as supplied by the manufacturer may be removed and replaced.  The main jet size only will be open, further modifications to the carburetor is not permissible.

7/            Removal of Rocker cover “only” is permissible to allow for adjustment of valves to rocker arm tolerances and replacement of valve springs. Valve springs may be required to be removed by a team member to allow for inspection and tolerance measurements.

8/            Valve springs are to conform to manufacturer’s standards.  Non standard spring                tolerances are not permissible.

9/            Removal of Head is not permissible.

10/          Repairs to engine and/or replacement and re-seating of valves to be performed by a designated engine builder. Contact promoter for details.

11/          A fee may apply for tagging or re-tagging an engine to check to see that no modifications have been made. Any violation may result in the relegation to last place for that race or accumulated points being completely or partially withdrawn by the promoter.

9: CLUTCH/GEARING

Maxitorque in either SS, Dragon Fly or Dragon Fly – Blue Printed or a Noram GE 20 clutch.  No restrictions on front or rear sprocket sizes. Pitch 219.

The only adjustments allowed to these clutches are as per manufacturer’s recommendation. For more information contact promoter.

No non-factory modifications are to be carried out.

Any changes to the clutch may result in the accumulated points being completely or partially withdrawn by the promoter.  A fee may apply to return the clutch to original specifications before the kart resumes racing in the series.

10: NUMBER PLATES

Numbers need to be displayed on the front Nassau panel, rear number plate and left and right hand side pods.

Lights - Black numbers on white background

Heavy – Black numbers on yellow background

The Championship team will be allowed to run the coveted Number 1 plate 2nd and 3rd place getters will be allowed to run the number 2 and 3 plate for the following year. Lights can run No. 1, 2 & 3 – Heavy can run No. 01 ,02 & 03.

11. FUEL

It is the responsibility of the teams to supply their own fuel to start a race, with enough volume to reach their scheduled compulsory fuel stop.

The fuel for the compulsory stops will be premium fuel supplied by the promoter and will include a lead replacement additive.

NO PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT FUEL ADDITIVES ALLOWED.

The standard go-kart fuel tank  is to be used with a maximum capacity of 9 litres only.  Any violation may result in the accumulated points being completely or partially withdrawn by the promoter.

12: TYRES

The nominated dry tyre is MG Reds front and rear.

The nominated wet tyre is MG White (wet) front and rear.

No tyre treatment is to be used.

13: WEIGHT/WEIGH-IN:  Kart & Driver minimum weight 170kg

1/                            Light – minimum weight 170kg

                                Heavy – minimum weight 170kg plus 10kg per driver

                                eg In a 3 driver team – Total weight 540kg (eg, driver 1 = 170kg, driver 2 & 3  = 185kg each)

                                2 driver team – total weight 360kg

                                3 driver team – total weight 540kg

                                4 driver team – total weight 720kg

2/            Teams that enter in the heavy class must nominate the combined weight of each driver and kart on the entry form

3/            The team’s driver & kart will be weighed randomly during the course of the race. A weigh board will be displayed to a driver during the course of the race.  The driver, upon acknowledging the directive, must enter the pits to perform the weigh-in which will be of a specific duration to make it fair for all teams.  The driver will drive the kart onto the scales and come to a complete stop. Only once the timed period has lapsed will the driver the allowed to re-enter the race.

4/            Drivers must not carry diver’s belts or any other methods of ballasts on their person.

5/            If additional weight is required for a driver or kart, see promoter for method and                 approval of fastening.

6/            Drivers that are found to be underweight will be given a 15 lap penalty on the finishing order.         

14: SCRUITINEERING (check list)

1/            All karts must be presented clean and race ready prior to scrutineering.

2/            Tyres, front stubs, axle, and steering

3/            Brakes, accelerator, engine, exhaust, and rear crash bar

4/            Seat and stays, rear light (must be working), and any item that the scrutineer deems necessary to inspect

5/            All mechanicals must be in good working order

6/            Scrutineering will be self assessed.

9/            The promoter reserves the right to carry out random checks prior to and after a race.

15: PIT STOpS

4 hour race – Minimum 6 stops in total. 

1/   One compulsory fuel stop.

2/   Five compulsory driver changes

16: PIT STOP FORM

Pit stop forms are to be completed by all teams during the course of a race.  Forms must be handed to the Clerk of Course at the completion of the event.  All driver changes will be the responsibility of the team. When a driver change or fuel stop occurs, the lap number and driver identification must be recorded on the pit stop form.

17: PIT BOARD

It is at the discretion of teams in the use of pit boards. Use of the promoter’s is not permitted.

18:RULES – any breaches may result in a “stop/go” penalty

1/            Any unsportsmanlike or dangerous driving by a team member or disruptive behavior, abusive language or any physical or verbal aggression by a team member or team members may result in a stop-go penalty or exclusion of the team member or team members from the remainder of the meeting or meetings.

 2/            When the all course “Yellow” light is displayed there is to be no passing on the circuit.

3/            Pit stops are not allowed under the all course “Yellow” light situation.  Pit entry is closed to all competitors until the lights return to “Green” and all competitors have passed the start/finish line. Should a kart enter under

                                “yellows”, no acknowledgement of driver change or pit stop, etc will be made.    

4/            If a kart enters the pit under a green light and then an all course yellow occurs,then upon completion of the pit stop, the driver will proceed to re-enter the race with caution.

5/            Under the all course yellow light, the leader board will be displayed to the lead driver – the driver is expected to hold up their hand until a number of karts are in formation behind them and drive at a slow even pace without deviation, continued non compliance may result in stop/go.

6/            Re-starts will commence at the start/finish line once the lights turn green. Karts must remain in single file and no advancement on the single file shall occur until each kart crosses the start/finish line.

7/            No speeding or skidding to a stop in the pit areas.

8/            It will be at the discretion of the Clerk of the Course as to the retrieval of a kart that has broken down on the circuit, the duration of a race, nature of breakdown and safety will be considered.

 9/            All karts must re-enter the circuit to the left hand side of the white dotted line. Karts must not cross or touch the line.

10/          For safety reasons, no entry to the circuit and/or the In-grid is permitted by any person(s), drivers or crew.  Permission to enter the circuit must be requested with the Clerk of Course prior to entry.

11/          At the start of a day/night race, the rear light must be activated prior to                 leaving the out grid before starting the race, the rear light must remain        active for the entire duration of the race. Non illumination of rear light will necessitate a pit stop to remedy the situation.

 12/          Drivers are asked to move to the left hand side of the straight at all times unless overtaking.

                13/          On entering the pits the driver must:

                                Enter their designated pit area with caution and exit the kart in a safe manner.

                                If mechanical work is to be performed, a mechanical breakdown area will be designated.

                                Teams are to provide their own tools which are to be removed from the mechanical breakdown area following each stop.

                 14/         For the Compulsory fuel stops

                                1. There will only be one refueling bay, the fuel Marshal must be              informed prior to your fuel stop to make sure that it is available for you.

2.  All fuel stops will be of a specific duration to make it fair for all teams. It is the driver’s responsibility to turn the engine off and undo the fuel cap.

                                3.  No driver changes are allowed during a fuel stop.

                                4.  Karts must re-enter the race following a fuel stop and are not to be pushed back to the mechanical bay unless the Clerk of the Course gives permission to do so.

5.  There is to be no maintenance performed on the kart during the fuel stop (unless directed by the Clerk of the Course).

6.  If an extra fuel stop is required you will be permitted to leave at the discretion of the fuel Marshal. The timed fuel stop will not apply.

7.  The maximum number of pit crew to be in attendance during a fuel stop is limited to 2 including the driver.

15/          For the compulsory driver changes

1.  Teams that do not complete all of their compulsory pit stops may receive the loss of 5 laps for every pit stop not completed. Drivers must not exceed the following number of laps during the course of the race.

                                                                4 hour    2 driver team        240 laps

                                                                                3 driver team        160 laps

                                                                                4 driver team        120 laps

2.  For every lap exceeded over the above or the nominated maximum laps for the event may result in the loss of one lap of the finished result at the end of the race.

                                3.  Upon completion of a driver change an out lap must be done before doing any other compulsory stops.

                                4.  A driver change in a mechanical breakdown can be used as a               compulsory driver change.

16/          A weight- board will be used to monitor the weight of a driver   during the course of the race.

17/          Once the race starts the driver must cross the start/finish line once before they are able to enter the pits.

18/          Should a driver in a team become sick on the night during racing, the     remaining team drivers must share equally the time remaining in the race.  If an extra driver is needed, only drivers that have entered (signed-in) for that event can compete and also, must meet the weight requirements for that class.

19/          If in the event of an accident, where the driver is injured to the point where he is                 unable to continue racing, and is forced to withdraw.  Then the proportion of laps must be allocated equally between the remaining members of the team.  No loss of points.

20/          In the event of an incident or inclement weather and a red light (race stopped)    occurs, the race    will be declared providing the duration has reached 75% or more of the scheduled race time.

21/          All teams are to allocate a team member as team leader for the purpose of acting as spokesperson for the team.

22/          It is the intention of the promoter to hold a team leader meeting as required and all team leaders are expected to attend.

23/          At the conclusion of an event the promoter at random may hold a number of engines for a period of time for scrutineering.

If for any reason the black flag is shown you must immediately return to the pits in the mechanical break down lane and await directions. 

20: POINTS SYSTEM

At the end of the race the team that has completed all of its pit stops and the most number of laps will be declared the winners, all other positions will be awarded in descending order of laps completed and points awarded in that descending order, once the promoter is satisfied with the results

Teams can drop one round over the 2010 series.

21: RACE FORMAT

1/            Upon arrival all teams and drivers must sign and complete the race entry form and pay entry fee. 

2/            Grid positions will be determined randomly, i.e. bingo style.  Draw commencing 1 hour prior to the race starting.  Entries received after the draw will start rear of grid.

3/            Drivers briefing.

4/            Race Starts.

22: TROPHIES – Perpetual

1st, 2nd and 3rd placing teams will receive trophies/prizes.

The Championship team will be allowed to run the coveted Number 1 plate 2nd and 3rd place getters will be allowed to run the number 2 and 3 plate for the following year - Lights can run No. 1, etc – Heavy’s can run No. 01, etc.

A perpetual trophy will display the names of the winning team drivers.

23: TROPHIES- For monthly race meet - 1st, 2nd and 3rd placing teams will receive trophies/prizes- to a maximum four drivers per team.

24:  BONUS PRIZE – SUBARU KX21 ENGINE

To qualify to be in the draw for the bonus prize, teams must enter and start all races per championship year less one.

The bonus prize will be drawn at the presentation night and can only be won by teams that are in attendance.  The draw will be bingo style.

25: RACE ENTRY FEES

Entry fees per team per race (fuel is included for the compulsory stops only) - $200.00 - 4 hours

Entries must be completed by 4.00pm.  Entries received after 4.00pm will not feature in grid draw and will start from rear of grid.                                                                          

26: PRACTICE FEES

$40.00 per day per team.  This applies to the Subaru 4 stroke kart teams only.

Practice on race day only will be free of charge when racing is held at Picton Karting Track.

Please ensure all drivers sign in and receive wrist bands.

  NOTE

1/            All decisions and penalties during and after the event are to be accepted in a              sportsmanlike manner and without recourse.

                2/            Continued and persistent objection to decisions made during the race and/or at the conclusion of racing may result in a stop/go penalty or exclusion from the event   or subsequent events.

                3/            The promoter reserves the right to alter the rules and regulations at any time without notice.
